Mon Lac Ciel - The OH NO Edition
The bad economy has struck my wedding! Since people have been commenting on my original post about Mon Lac Ciel and the foreclosure, I decided to address it. Yes, I said foreclosure. My wedding is in 5 weeks and we found out yesterday. (Thanks to the kind reader with inside info who emailed me.)
Note to wedding guests and family - DO NOT CHANGE YOUR PLANS. We are still progressing as normal for now and you'll hear from us if even one thing should change. There will be a wedding on June 20th...somewhere.
We have spoken with the owners and they are fairly convinced that they will be able to pay the bank in time. Our invitations are sent, many of the replies are in, all of the events around the wedding are planned, people have flights and hotels. We are crossing our fingers that the owners come through and everything goes as planned. I mean, with 5 weeks left, there is little else we can do without compromising our vision and totally changing the wedding of my dreams. I refuse to settle. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
If, however, I should be made to settle, we are working on a plan B. I hate plan Bs. I would rather have it in someones back yard than a hokey banquet hall or hotel...so that may be an option.
Does anyone have any experience with this type of thing? Has this happened to anyone? How did you get through it? Or if anyone knows of some land in Northwest IN that we can throw a tent up on... Any advice or suggestions are EXTREMELY welcomed.

Hi Sara,
I've been reading your blog since last fall shortly after my engagement. My fiance and I live in South Bend, IN and spent months looking for the perfect place to have a wedding and reception. We even visited Mon Lac Ciel, after finding the initial information on your website. Although we had ruled the venue out as an option, we could really see the potential. Sorry this happened.
Anyway, amongst all our searching, I was recommended a place that you could potentially throw up a tent: Bradford Pond on the Meadow. We did not visit the place, but there is a woman who coordinates weddings on the premise - http://www.celebrated-events.com/featured/Tent/index.shtml. If anything, perhaps you can gain some ideas from her. I'd be happy to share a list of venues my fiance and I visited in the area - we searched the South Bend, Michigan City and LaPorte areas. Best of luck to you and your fiance!
Hey Sara! IDK how I missed your original post about your venue. I know this place! My mom has been in love with it my whole life. and randomly, my parents house is less than 5 miles from it. I so hope everything works out!! If disaster strikes, maybe you can pitch your tent in my parents backyard :)
I should also mention how amazing you seem to be handling this. I would have freaked the eff out if this happened to me five weeks before my wedding! Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
Ok, I just read your other blog and now I think you're reacting more appropriately; with the vomiting and speeding. and now I will stop commenting.
OMG, I would be losing my sh*t! I'm so sorry, that's awful!
The only advise I can think to give is that many places have great deals/packages on short notice. We booked the Millennium Knickerbocker in Chi town two months before our wedding and got a great all inclusive deal and an excellent space. Good luck and please let me know if there's anything I can do to help! xoxo, Wendy
Sara,
We were there on Saturday looking for our wedding and met your parents. They are lovely people but your dad looked REAL worried. He used the word "sweating" about 5 times in our short conversation. He didnt mention ANY of this and neither did Terri, Ron, or the caterer ( i think her name was Joy) we met who is doing your wedding. If you have any information on this PLEASE let me know before we write any checks. I really REALLY hope your wedding goes off without a hitch. My fiance and I are in the same situation as you guys, we live in NY instead of Cali though. E-mail me if you have any info on what is going on.
Good Luck,
Matt
